An immersive and adventurous multi-day tour to Kumalu Dream Island in Suriname’s Upper Suriname region. This trip offers stunning nature, cultural encounters with the Saamaka community, and physical exploration through boat rides, hikes, and waterfalls. The journey begins with an early morning departure from Paramaribo. After traveling south by road past the old Suralco bauxite plant and Brownsweg, the group reaches Atjoni. From there, a 3–4 hour canoe trip follows through the Upper Suriname region, including lunch en route. Upon arrival, guests explore the island and later enjoy an evening boat tour on the Pikin Rio, searching for wildlife.
After breakfast, guests visit Djumu village and the region’s largest medical post. This is followed by a jungle hike to Ananasberg. After enjoying panoramic views, guests return for lunch. In the afternoon, there’s a visit to the Tapawatra Falls where swimming and optional watersports (like tubing) are available. The evening ends with dinner and time to relax.
For the 3-day program, the final day begins with an early or late breakfast depending on group size, followed by a return boat ride to Atjoni and transfer back to Paramaribo by road. Arrival is expected in the afternoon.
For those doing the 4-day tour, this additional day features a boat trip beyond the Tapawatra Falls to the Gran Dan rapids, including optional tubing depending on water levels. The rest of the day is free for relaxation and swimming. The next morning follows the same return schedule as Day 3.
