Experience an unforgettable vacation on an enchanting island in the Upper Suriname River, near the stunning Ferulassi Falls. This 11-hectare resort offers a unique adventure in the lush Amazon rainforest of Suriname. Just a 2.5-hour drive and a 1-hour boat ride from Paramaribo, it’s the perfect destination for families seeking an authentic jungle experience. Enjoy nature and discover the beauty of Suriname at this stunning resort.
Your adventure begins in the morning, between 9:00 AM and 9:30 AM, when you’re picked up from Paramaribo by a comfortable, air-conditioned bus. The journey to Atjoni takes around three hours, including a few short stops to stretch your legs or use the restroom. Once you arrive at Atjoni, the journey continues with a motorized canoe ride that lasts about an hour and a half, depending on the water level. During the dry season, you might even need to hop in and out of the canoe, walking over rocks in the river, adding to the sense of adventure.
Upon arrival at the Anaula Nature Resort, you’ll be warmly welcomed by your host. While sipping a refreshing local drink, the program for the upcoming days is explained. Afterward, a delicious lunch with local flavors is served. Once you’ve settled into your comfortable riverfront cabana, there’s time to relax, freshen up, or unpack before the first excursion.
Later in the afternoon, you’ll board a motorized canoe again to visit a spot locals affectionately call the “natural jacuzzi”, a refreshing and invigorating place to swim and relax in the rapids of the river. As the sun sets, you return to the resort to enjoy a hearty dinner featuring regional dishes, then settle in for a peaceful night in the heart of the rainforest.
After waking to the sounds of nature, you’ll enjoy a breakfast buffet to start your day. The morning is reserved for cultural exploration. A guided village walk takes you into a nearby Maroon village, where you can learn about the local way of life, traditions, and customs. You’ll also go on a short forest walk on the island itself, discovering native flora and fauna with your guide explaining the uses of various plants.
Lunch awaits you back at the resort, after which you can spend your afternoon however you please. Whether you want to go swimming in the river, relax in a hammock with a good book, or join an optional excursion, this is your time to enjoy paradise.
As night falls, a special evening boat tour awaits. Gliding over the river in near silence, you might spot nocturnal wildlife, and on a clear night, the sky above is a blanket of stars. After returning from this magical boat ride, dinner is served, rounding off a day full of discovery and serenity.
Your final day begins with breakfast surrounded by the tranquility of the rainforest. There’s still time to swim, relax, or take in your surroundings before packing up. Lunch is served between 11:00 AM and 12:00 PM, giving you one last taste of the resort’s local cuisine.
In the early afternoon, you’ll say goodbye to Anaula and begin your return journey. A motorized canoe takes you back down the river to Atjoni, where the bus awaits for the final leg of the trip back to Paramaribo. You’re expected to arrive in the city around 6:00 PM, carrying with you the unforgettable memories of your time in Suriname’s Amazon.
The morning is completely yours to enjoy at your own pace. Whether you prefer to relax in a hammock with a good book, take one last refreshing swim in the river, or wander around the island to soak in its sounds and atmosphere, the choice is yours. Embrace the peaceful beauty of Suriname’s interior one more time before returning to the bustle of daily life.
After lunch, it’s time to bid farewell to Anaula. We journey back by boat to Atjoni, where your bus will be waiting for the return trip to Paramaribo. A calm and personal ending to an unforgettable jungle experience.
