Your journey begins early in the morning. With a bus from Paramaribo to Nieuw Nickerie. Upon reaching the jetty, you will go on an approximately one-hour boat crossing to the resort. Around mid afternoon, you arrive at Akira Overwater Resort and you are welcomed with a delicious lunch. After settling into your private lodge and taking some time to relax, the evening brings an exciting boat excursion. As night falls, you venture into the waters to spot caimans and snakes, experiencing the nocturnal wildlife of Bigi Pan up close.
Please note that there is no guide present during the bus ride; you will meet your guide upon arrival in Nickerie.
Before dawn, you have the opportunity to immerse yourself in the tranquil surroundings of the resort. An early morning bird tour allows you to witness the awakening of various bird species in their natural habitat. After the bird-watching excursion, a hearty breakfast is served. The rest of the morning is yours to enjoy as you wish. You may choose to canoe, or simply relax and take in the natural beauty around you. In the afternoon, an extensive boat trip is planned. If you visit during the migratory season, this trip culminates at the sleeping place of migratory birds, offering a magical spectacle where thousands of birds color the sky as they settle in for the night. The day concludes with a delightful dinner back at the resort.
After enjoying breakfast amidst the peaceful ambiance of Bigi Pan, the morning is at your leisure. You can choose to spot more birds, sunbathe, or simply relish the panoramic views from the resort. Shortly after lunch, it is time to say farewell to Akira Overwater Resort as you depart for Paramaribo, carrying with you memories of an unforgettable experience in Suriname’s pristine nature.
