Brownsberg is a nature reserve located in the Brokopondo district, approximately 130 km south of Paramaribo. This expansive area spans over 12,000 hectares and offers a unique variety of plants and wildlife. The region is known for its diverse medicinal plants, traditionally used for treating injuries and illnesses.
Surinamese Dolphins, the Profosu, this tour starts around 4:00 PM, from a boat departing from Leonsberg. The Profosu dolphin is small in size and has a small mouth. Transportation from the city center to the pier is not included in the price.
The Commewijne by Boat Tour is an exciting journey full of history, culture, and adventure. During this tour, we sail along the Commewijne River and explore three former plantations: Fort Nieuw-Amsterdam, Rust & Werk, and Johanna Margaretha/Frederiksdorp. Our first stop is Fort Nieuw-Amsterdam, the capital of the Commewijne district. Here, we visit the open-air museum and learn about the different ethnic groups and Suriname's history of slavery.
In the morning, we travel by car from Paramaribo to Albina and take a dugout canoe (korjaal) to the border town of Saint Laurent-du-Maroni. What makes this town unique is that it is a tolerated zone, meaning you can visit it without having any stamps placed in your passport and without affecting your Surinamese visa. (European residents can travel freely to French Guiana, but if you wish to go beyond Saint Laurent, which is not part of this tour, you will need a new tourist visa for Suriname.)
