Description
The Commewijne by Boat Tour is an exciting journey full of history, culture, and adventure. During this tour, we sail along the Commewijne River and explore three former plantations: Fort Nieuw-Amsterdam, Rust & Werk, and Johanna Margaretha/Frederiksdorp.
Our first stop is Fort Nieuw-Amsterdam, the capital of the Commewijne district. Here, we visit the open-air museum and learn about the different ethnic groups and Suriname's history of slavery.
Next, we continue to the former coffee plantation, Rust & Werk, where around 300 people still live. You will be given a tour of the village.
Our final stop is the former plantation of Johanna Margaretha/ Frederiksdorp, where beautifully renovated plantation houses await. If it's not too crowded, you can also take a swim in the pool. It’s a perfect spot to relax and unwind.
Around 3:00 PM, we begin our return trip to the pier at Leonsberg. With a bit of luck, we might spot dolphins along the way.
By 4:00 PM, we return to the pier, ending an informative and relaxing day.
