Experience the nocturnal wonders of Peperpot Nature Park on this evening walking tour. Guided by a wildlife expert, explore the park’s trails in search of creatures that become active after dusk, including snakes, frogs, sloths, owls, and possibly even nocturnal mammals. The tour offers a unique opportunity to observe wildlife behaviors not seen during daylight hours.
As the sun sets and darkness takes over, we gather at the edge of the forest with our guide. After a short introduction and some helpful tips on how to use our headlamps to spot animals by the reflection of their eyes.
The guide will remind you to scan the trees and bushes carefully, but also to watch our step; Labaria (pit vipers) are sometimes found along the trails. Step by step, the night reveals its secrets. With every sound and flicker of movement, the excitement grows. The forest transforms completely at night, the calls of unseen animals, and bats flitting past our lights create a magical, almost surreal atmosphere.
Our guides skillfully spot creatures we would have walked right past: Brazilian wandering spiders, tarantulas, and several snakes, including pit vipers and slender tree boas. At the top of the birdwatching tower, the guide imitates the call of the Great Potoo. Moments later, the bird might answers, swooping overhead and filling the night with its haunting cry; a moment you will never forget.
After a few hours, the walk comes to an end, leaving you filled with images, sounds, and stories of the forest at night. Over a refreshing drink, we share what we’ve seen.
